Completed in 1865, St. Paul's in Port Townsend stands as one of the oldest continuously standing structures in the Puget Sound region. Originally constructed on a bluff near Franklin and Monroe Streets, the historic wooden sanctuary was famously placed on wooden rollers in 1883 and hauled by horses and windlasses to its current Uptown location at Jefferson and Tyler Streets to make way for road construction. The move nearly collapsed the Carpenter Gothic building, requiring iron tension rods that still reinforce its frame today.
